I defended my Ph.D. in psychiatry at the University of Copenhagen in 2022. Through my research, I came to realize just how little of what we know in psychiatry, psychology, and mental health ever reaches clinical practice, where it’s most needed. That realization reshaped my path forward: rather than adding more papers to the ever-growing pile of research that rarely makes it into practice, I committed myself to bridging the gap between knowledge and practice.
Because we do know enough to start acting - about withdrawal, tapering, how psychiatric drugs work, and psychosocial alternatives to life-long medication. The problem isn’t a lack of knowledge. It’s that this knowledge hasn’t made its way into most clinical settings. As a result, people are often left without support, blamed for ‘relapsing,’ or told their medication is a biological necessity to stay well.
So I wrote a book.
A book that speaks directly to the people who need it: Patients, loved ones, families, therapists, prescribers. It aims to make complex science, biological principles, and psychological strategies accessible and actionable right off the page. It brings together the latest research and over a decade of clinical experience helping individuals safely come off psychiatric drugs, navigate what follows, and reclaim agency over their lives.
The book was first published in Danish in April 2024. Soon after, I began translating it into English. I’m now thrilled to share that the English edition is finished and will be released in summer 2025. (Exact release date coming soon.)
