Welcome.
Welcome to the online home of my writing, research, and book: Crossing Zero: The Art and Science of Coming off – and Staying off – Psychiatric Drugs.
After years of working and publishing primarily in Danish, this newsletter marks a new beginning. If you’ve just found your way here: a wholehearted welcome. You’re early – and I’m glad you are.
Crossing zero refers to the moment you take your final dose of a psychiatric drug you’ve been tapering. While that moment is a milestone in itself, it’s often also the beginning of something deeper: learning to live with, understand, and regulate your emotions and trauma without medication as a strategy.
My work focuses on both parts of the process:
How to gradually and safely taper down to 0 mg without triggering severe withdrawal
And how to stay off – to navigate returning emotions, thought patterns, and impulses, and to find stability beyond medication
Most countries still lack formal guidelines for safe psychiatric drugs tapering, leaving many people to figure it out on their own – or come off way too fast for their bodies to keep up. And when people then deteriorate after stopping their medication, they’re often told “the illness is returning.” But what if it’s withdrawal we’re seeing, not the original problem resurfacing? What if it’s simply the drug leaving the system too fast for the body to and brain to adapt?
Understanding that difference is critical. And helping people navigate the process – while also navigating the psychological journey beyond medication – is the core of my work.
Whether you’re tapering, thinking about it, supporting someone who is, or just starting to ask questions, this space is for you. You’ll already find a handful of articles, videos, and a full lecture. In the coming weeks and months, I’ll be sharing more: excerpts from the book, podcast appearances, upcoming events, research updates, and answers to your questions in a monthly Q&A.
If you’d like to follow along more closely, I’ve also just launched a X / Twitter profile. Your support in helping build this international presence is deeply appreciated. In return, I’ll do my best to keep this space valuable and relevant to you.
Thanks for being here. I mean it.
And welcome to Crossing Zero.
