Crossing Zero: The Deep Dive Series
Chapter-by-Chapter Online Live Sessions + Q&A
A new live webinar series for paid subscribers
I wrote Crossing Zero to be a companion; something you return to while navigating tapering, withdrawal, fear, confusion, returning emotions, and life beyond medication.
I wanted it to be a book people use, not just read: a map for making sense of what’s happening in the body, the mind, and the self during and after psychiatric drugs.
Since the book came out, many of you have reached out to say that certain chapters opened something in you, clarified a fear, or challenged an old belief. The technical parts of the book in particular seemed to finally explain why a taper failed or why symptoms were misunderstood - and what to do differently next time.
And a recurring theme in these messages is a simple request:
“Can we go deeper into this?”
“This chapter stayed with me. I want to understand it better.”
“Can you talk more about this part?”
So today, I’m launching a way for us to do exactly that:
A live, chapter-by-chapter deep-dive webinar series.
This will be a guided journey through the book - deeper than the book itself - with live Q&A and a chance to try the experiential exercises together, guided by me.
Starting December 20th, I’ll host a 30-40 minute live presentation on Zoom each week, where I unpack one chapter of the book in depth. After the presentation, we’ll open it up for live Q&A, where you can ask your questions specific to that chapter - whether you’re tapering, supporting someone, or working clinically with medication.
Withdrawal is one of the most misunderstood experiences in psychiatry, and most people go through it without support or guidance. My goal with this series is to change that, and to create a space where no one has to navigate this alone or in confusion. We’ll cover all drug classes: Antidepressants, antipsychotics, benzodiazepines, mood stabilizers, and stimulants.
And yes: every session will be recorded and available for replay for all paid subscribers, so you can watch from any time zone and no one misses out.
The Schedule: Chapter-by-Chapter Sessions
We will move sequentially through the book - Chapters 2 through 9 - in the order they appear in Crossing Zero.

🕒 11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM UK / 8:00 PM CET
A clear, accessible, evidence-based walkthrough of what these drugs do (and don’t do) in the brain and body.
December 27 — Chapter 3: Are Mental Health Problems Diseases of the Brain?
🕒 11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM UK / 8:00 PM CET
The science, the myths, the chemical imbalance story - and the question it all leads to: If not medical diseases, then what are mental health problems?
January 3 — Chapter 4: Dependence, Withdrawal Symptoms, and Management Strategies
🕒 11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM UK / 8:00 PM CET
Why withdrawal happens, what it actually is (and isn’t), how to read your own symptom patterns, how to distinguish withdrawal from relapse, and practical, psychological strategies for managing withdrawal symptoms as they occur.
January 10 — Chapter 5: Dose Reductions and Tapering in Practice
🕒 11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM UK / 8:00 PM CET
All the technical stuff: Hyperbolic tapering principles, receptor occupancy curves, real-world taper examples, microtapering, the nuts and bolts of splitting, dissolving, and counting, and how to think about designing a taper that actually works for you.
January 17 — Chapter 6: Psychological Dependence
🕒 11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM UK / 8:00 PM CET
How habits, fear, identity, and the placebo effect become entangled with medication use - and how to break that cycle.
January 24 — Chapter 7: Your Social Support Network
🕒 11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM UK / 8:00 PM CET
Why tapering can’t be done alone, and how to build the kind of practical, emotional, and sustainable support system around you that you’ll need - plus how to have the difficult conversations with loved ones about withdrawal.
January 31 — Chapter 8: Waking Up to Yourself and Your Inner Compass
🕒 11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM UK / 8:00 PM CET
How emotions return when medication stops — sometimes gently, sometimes forcefully - and how to meet them with curiosity rather than fear. We’ll explore how to navigate this new emotional terrain without becoming overwhelmed.
February 7 — Chapter 9: Managing the Monkey Mind Without Medication
🕒 11:00 AM PT / 2:00 PM ET / 7:00 PM UK / 8:00 PM CET
How to overcome rumination, worry, and other forms of overthinking using the powerful metacognitive approach and exercises (guided, live).

This is great! I recently came across your work via your discussion with Angie Peacock Just started reading your book. I've already read Dr. Mark Horowitz's book, which was super helpful. But really looking forward to reading your book which is less of a textbook and also discussing things from a psychotherapy perspective as well. I've tried to come off of SSRIs 4 times before, each time with more disastrous results. Thankfully I was able to stabilize and now am following a super slow hyperbolic taper. I first tried coming off in 2011 and I had no idea what was going on. I'm beyond grateful for the work you do and others like you... I have hope, finally, that I'll be getting off of these meds. ❤️ I've already added these sessions to my calendar!
I will be most definitely taking part in these series! Thanks Doc
kind regards, Ignacio
